After months of backlash, Sony has finally announced cross-play with all other platforms, starting with Fortnite. Unfortunately, the feature is currently only available in beta, exclusively with Fortnite as of this writing. Support for more games will be revealed soon. In today’s PlayStation blog post, Sony said that “[cross-play] represents a major policy change for SIE, and we are now in the planning process across the organization to support this change.” We can assume that it will take some time for cross-play to take effect for every game.
If you went ahead and created a new Fortnite account after you tried to play on a different platform than PS4, there’s great news! Epic announced on Twitter that an account unlinking and merging feature will be available soon. That’s all the information currently available, and you can expect Launch Party Gaming to keep you updated on any new announcements as more details are revealed. Are you excited to play with anyone regardless of console preference? Are you relieved because of the cross-play announcement? Let us know below in the comments.
